by John Ruggiero, Author provided Book review: “The following review was written by a member of the UK’s Science Writers’ Association, who was not compensated for the work he has done and whose work is published in other journals, including Science, Science-related newspapers and the Guardian.
I would like to thank him for this work.
It was well done.”
Science Writers’ Associations are independent organisations that represent writers in science and technology, as well as authors of scientific books and journals.
Members receive an annual salary of £50,000.
It is unusual for an independent organisation to make a book review, as a public body may be reluctant to endorse books.
However, the authors are paid a percentage of the sales of their book.
This means that the publishers may not be paid any royalties.
